CoPilot updates are released to app stores multiple times a year with enhancements and fixes to ensure the best possible experience for drivers. However, it has recently come to our attention that some fleets have a custom IT policy that allows their Android devices to install CoPilot updates while the app is in use—a setting called high priority update mode.
We highly recommend against setting the CoPilot app to Android’s high priority update mode.
If a driver is using CoPilot at the time an update releases in the app store, the app closes during the update. This creates a bad experience for drivers, who may assume the app is broken. It is also potentially confusing for drivers with the recent release of CoPilot 11, which has different look and features compared with CoPilot 10.
What is happening?
Most users likely have Google Play set to automatically update applications each time an update is available in the store. By default, apps are only updated while the device is charging and the app is not running in the foreground.
Some fleets, however, have their own device update policy that bypasses settings in the Google Play store, and uses high priority update mode for CoPilot.
What you should do
We recommend fleets that update CoPilot via Google Play turn off high priority update mode or use one of the Play Store’s update settings to ensure CoPilot does not update in transit.
You can change auto-update settings in the Google Play Store:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon at the top right.
- Tap Settings > Network Preferences > Auto-update apps. The screen below displays.
- Select an update option or select Don't auto-update apps to turn off this feature.
By default, apps are only updated based on the above setting and while the device is charging and the app is not running in the device’s foreground.
