CoPilot 11 introduces a new map update feature that downloads and installs only the differences between the existing map data on a device and the latest available data. (Previous versions of CoPilot replace all of the old map data with new map data.) This new feature not only increases the speed of updates, but it also reduces the size of downloads by 75 to 90 percent.
It is available for any CoPilot users who download map updates over WiFi or mobile internet.
How does the map update feature work?
If your CoPilot app is set to download map updates over the air, it will search for available updates each time it is launched. CoPilot first checks whether a "map diff" is available for the map update. A map diff includes only the differences between the current map data on the device and the latest available data.
If the currently installed map data on the device is more than three years old, CoPilot downloads and installs the entire latest version of map data when you install CoPilot 11. If the currently installed data is less than three years old:
- If a map diff is available, CoPilot downloads and installs it.
- If a map diff is not available, CoPilot downloads and installs the entire latest version of map data. All future updates will only require a map diff.
How do map sets affect map diffs?
Map sets are subsets of map data in the U.S., Canada, Oceania, and Europe that you create in Account Manager and assign to only the vehicle groups that require those maps. The map diff process is the same as it is for full sets of data.
